Biomoda Successfully Completes First Clinical Validation Of CyPath

Biomoda’s Assay, CyPath, Demonstrates Capability of Differentiating Lung Cancer Patients from Normal Patients

Albuquerque, N.M. –(Business Wire), April 11, 2005 - Biomoda, Inc. has successfully completed the first clinical validation of CyPath, the company’s development stage assay for cancer. These results indicate CyPath’s ability to differentiate lung cancer patients, heavy smokers, and normal individuals. “This represents an exciting step forward for Biomoda with the commercialization of CyPath and its application to cancer diagnosis”, said Dr. Herbert Whitaker, Executive Vice President.

CyPath is a product developed from technology licensed by Biomoda from the University of California and from Biomoda’s own patented technology. This is a cytology assay with the ability to differentiate normal cells from abnormal cells. CyPath’s initial cancer target is lung cancer; additional R&D is focused on addressing bladder and cervical cancers.

While this first clinical validation study was tremendously successful, it represents the first step in the process of validation and commercialization of CyPath. Biomoda is currently collecting new samples to further validate the predictability of the assay for early detection of cancer. “CyPath shows great potential for identifying people with lung cancer and those at risk for developing lung cancer”, said Dr. Robin Neft, Director of Research and Development at Biomoda.
